WSGN Certified Breeder Requirements
  

While we are updating our pages and requirements, below are some aspects of keeping and breeding gliders that we will expect from our Certified Breeders

Husbandry:  

  • One year experience with sugar gliders in a not-for-profit capacity.

  • A veterinarian and/or an experienced breeder within 40 miles who is familiar with sugar gliders, glider maladies, and treatment options.

  • An exotic veterinarian who can treat sugar gliders within 75 miles of breeding facility

 

Cage Requirements:

  • Minimum cage size should be 24x24x36 for two adult gliders.

  • Perches (branches, wood)

  • One flat surface above the floor of the cage

  • At least one pouch or nest box, cleaned or changed out weekly

  • Additional toys for hiding and security

  • Safe Exercise wheel: WSGN recommends the Wodent or Rowdy Wheel.

  • Temperature should be between 70-85 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Cages should not be in direct sunlight, but should allow for filtered or indirect sunlight in the facility, and should be placed away from any drafts.

Useful Links

Once you feel that you fulfill all of these:  Here is what you do!

Please send in a listing of your current breeding pairs, pictures of your glider areas, including play rooms. 

Please send:

  • A recommendation letter from your veterinarian
  • a listing of your menu
  • your enrichment schedule  
  • Who is in charge of your gliders when you are out of town?
  • what is your cleaning schedule and standard operating procedure for cleaning your cages?
  • Your vet schedule? 
  • Do you also rescue? 
  • Do you have quarantine, please send pictures as well for that.
  • Copy of your USDA License

    USDA recommends having a Standard Operating Procedure for rescues, you may want to come up with one for your inspector.

    When you finish your application and we review your information, we will contact you for an interview, and let you know if you are a WSGN Certified Breeder!
