Questionnaire for Potential Clients

It is important that when you sell a joey, you know that the life they will have with their new owner is as good as the life you give your own gliders. Below are some questions that will help you decide if someone is ready for a sugar glider or if they are just into them because they are so adorable. Please do not sell to someone just because they are a novelty-the newness wears off and gliders are often neglected in these cases.

You can ask these questions in person or on the phone for a first step in the interview process.

1. Why did you become interested in sugar gliders?

2. What kind of time do you have to dedicate to a glider EVERY DAY?

3. Have you studied up on diets and housing? If not, are you willing to learn and follow a regimented diet for your glider's welfare? (this would be a good time to describe your diet and what it entails)

4. How much room do you have for a cage for your glider? (make suggestions for the largest possible cage for the space available)

5. Do you have access to an exotic veterinarian? (you can always suggest yours if they are in the area-if not check the vet listing at Glider Central.)

6. If, at any time, due to illness or other unforeseen circumstance, you must give up your glider, are you willing to return it to me, the breeder, for future placement in a loving home?

7. Do you have small children? Other pets? (discuss the dangers of other animals and small children around gliders)

8. Do you have a room that can be dedicated to glider playtime? (They don't HAVE to have one, but it is a good idea)

Remember, as a breeder, you are responsible for the type of home your joey goes to. You cannot always guarantee a perfect home, but asking these questions and getting to know your potential client before the sale is a good way to judge what kind of home your glider may have.
