Sugar Glider Proofing Checklist
Some common cage problems to look out for!
  • Always check the seams on your pouches when you wash them, if there are lose strings, cut them and make sure there are NO little loops of thread waiting to come apart.  If the pouch has a lot of strings, toss it-gliders like new things too1
  • Wheels:  Only Rowdy, Wodent and Flex wheels have been designed with sugar gliders in mind. Do not use a wire wheel-Serious injury can be caused. There is even a new invention out, by Suncoast Sugar Gliders that trims their nails as they run!
  • Do not use any kind of wood chip bedding - papers towels, plain newsprint, puppy pads, newspaper (Black and white only) are some preferable cage liners to wood chips/shavings. They can cause upper respiratory problems among other things.
  • Make sure that a dime cannot fit through the bars, in any direction.
  • Zip tie doors that you will not use, as gliders can open doors!
